Top Tip 8: EVERYTHING has a name

Lesson 8

REMEMBER EVERYTHING HAS A NAME...NEVER use the word 'IT' or 'THERE'...

It is important to build your child's language by naming the things they are doing, playing with and their actions. By doing this you will be increasing the number of words they understand.

Babies naturally hear different types of sounds. They become familiar with speech sounds, environmental sounds and animal sounds, recognising the difference between them. The sounds that are most important to the baby will be the easiest learnt. The most important sound is their Mother and Father's voices. They will start responding to their voices. It is also natural for a baby to discover their own voice and will start imitating the sounds they hear. that is why meaningful talk and repetition is so important. When the babies parents start imitating their words they start to learn what communication is.

Initially a baby smiles and then their parents smile back. Then they make babbling sounds and their parents copy what they say...they are communicating.

REMEMBER...always face towards the light, get eye contact at eye level, talk about things that interest your child...make them aware of sounds you can hear and speak clearly and in full sentences. Encourage your child to copy words and always have a positive attitude. Make sure you name everything...everything and everywhere has a name. Most of all make language building FUN 🙂
