MEET HUGHAN who is profoundly deaf...
In 1990, we were living in Gaborone, Botswana, and traveled four time a year for lessons at The Carel du Toit Centre in Cape Town, as there were no Specialists where we lived. Vanessa was our teacher at Parent Guidance who took the sessions. We were teaching Hughan his lip-reading and communication skills. These videos were taken as a reminder of what we should be working on at home, between each visit. This was also a way for the Centre to track Hughan's progress.

Third Video - taken of Hughan, at 2 years 4 months old, on 20th December 1990. This video was taken during our 4th visit back to the Centre.
Fourth video - taken of Hughan, at 2 and a half years old, on 25th February 1991. This video was taken during our 5th visit back to the Centre.
Fifth video - taken of Hughan, at nearly three years old, on the 23rd July 1991. This video was taken during our 6th visit back to the Centre.
Sixth video - taken of Hughan, at 3 years and 3 months old, on 26th November 1991. This video was taken during our 7th visit back to the Centre.

18th Sept 2012 - Hughan was 24 years old when this video was taken of him having his Cochlear Implant re-mapped.
February 2017...Hughan returned to the Carel du Toit Centre in Cape Town and spoke about his journey with deafness.
