Monday 18/06/90 – a bomb in Gaborone

A bomb went off in the night at Kalahari Ford (the Ford motor dealership in Gaborone), where Willem works. Destroying a car completely and blowing the roof off the showroom, shattering windows – also windows on the buildings across the road.

Willem had to dismiss staff and come home to work, while the building was being rebuilt.  Unbelievable damage was done, with police and all sorts asking questions and trying to work out who might have the incentive to do such a thing.

(I started this website to help other patents with deaf children through our experience. Our son Hughan was born in 1988 and was diagnosed profoundly deaf at 14 months old. We kept a Diary, so his progress could be tracked between our lessons, as we were living in Gaborone in Botswana and traveled every 3 months to the Carel du Toit Centre in Cape Town.)
