DIARY NOTES – In 1991, 23 years ago today this is what I wrote in the ‘Diary’.
(Hughan was 2 1/2 years old)
First thing this morning Hughan was sitting in his room on the carpet reading his books (see Making books) that we have made together. I sat and joined him and gave him the language for each page. We finished looking at the first book and he handed me another. We went through three books together.
After Vil and Willem had left, Hughan came and fetched me and took me into the lounge, he wanted the coffee table moving for his morning lesson (the coffee table that we push in front of the window – I sit on the carpet facing the window, so Hughan could see my face).
We played with all the noise making toys. We had a very full morning and Hughan was saying words and babbling well.
(Helping parents with hearing impaired children through our experience…we are following our profoundly deaf son’s diary, from 1990, so you can see what we did to help him with his speech and hearing. Hughan is 25 years old now and he can hold a conversation on a phone. It is the little thing we did every day, over a long period of time, that has helped him.
