DIARY NOTES – In 1991, 23 years ago today Hughan and I were returning to Cape Town for more lessons with Vanessa, at Parent Guidence at the Carel du Toit Centre. This is what I wrote in the ‘Diary’.
(Hughan was 2 1/2 years old)
I spent the morning changing plans for Cape Town. The boys went to the cricket club as it was Vil’s lesson.
Hughan gets very excited going down the bumpy dirt road that goes through the bush to the cricket club. He spends most of his time in the playground and he has also got some friends he plays with.
Over the weekend Hughan burnt his hand on a barbecue. He had been telling us all night it was “hot” and we had finished cooking about half an hour before it happened. We did not see what happened!
It’s great being back in Cape Town at the centre. I told Hughan before we left that we were going to see Vanessa, and I showed him the photo of you (picture of Hughan with Vanessa).
He seemed to know exactly what I was on about. We are looking forward to seeing you again and getting more inspiration.
(Helping parents with hearing impaired children through our experience…we are following our profoundly deaf son’s diary, from 1990, so you can see what we did to help him with his speech and hearing. Hughan is 25 years old now and he can hold a conversation on a phone. It is the little thing we did every day, over a long period of time, that has helped him.
